Inette Miller and ‘Iokepa Hanalei ‘Īmaikalani

For the past  nineteen years, ‘Iokepa and Inette have prepared themselves for this powerful spiritual pilgrimage. They have lived a life of service to the aboriginal Hawaiian people and to the ‘āina – land – that has bolstered their faith, opened their hearts, and filled them with the truth of the ancestors’ lives.

Return Voyage has been an unfunded walk of faith. “My Grandmothers tell me, our culture is not for sale – that if I speak to the people’s ears, our ancestors will speak to their hearts.”

“We are extremely excited to host a gathering once again.  Since your last visit, the Whispers have turned to loud chants!  Many who did not have the opportunity to meet you…to meet the Grandmothers, are eagerly awaiting.  Some out of curiosity, others to follow the journey, and still others to share the sense of insight, inspiration and hope.  It is our desire to be a part of yet another beginning…”

THE RETURN VOYAGE: 95,000 Miles on the Paths of Our Ancestors joins the journey where the award-winning memoir Grandmothers Whisper ended: with snapshots of gripping, inspiring and painful encounters – and the constant urging of the Hawaiian ancestors.

By turns hilarious and heartbreaking, moving and thought-provoking, Inette chronicles their experience as she and ‘Iokepa crisscross the American continent in a donated Camry speaking the ancient Hawaiian wisdom to a world in sore need of the reminder.

GRANDMOTHERS WHISPER: Ancient Voices, Timeless Wisdom, a Modern Love Story is the gripping spiritual and cultural memoir from a former war correspondent and respected journalist – and it won the beautiful black onyx obelisk, Visionary Award Book of the Year,  in auto/biography.  The prestigious national award celebrates excellence in spiritual writing. The powerful memoir takes place largely in familiar places in Hawai’i.
